The Easiest Currency Farming Guide in Path of Exile

With the recent buff to Winter Orb, the skill has become increasingly popular among Path of Exile build creators and players. That growing demand has also pushed up the value of Light of Meaning jewels, particularly jewels with Energy Shield, Physical Damage, and Cold Damage modifiers.

This creates an interesting farming opportunity in the 3.29 All Flame League: repeatedly running the King in the Mists encounter and selling the Light of Meaning jewels it drops.

Unlike many endgame farming strategies, this method requires very little investment. You do not need expensive Scarabs, heavily juiced maps, or a specialized Atlas tree. With a capable character and enough starting capital, King in the Mists can provide a relatively consistent source of Divine Orb income.

Why King in the Mists Is a Great Money Maker

The main reason this strategy works is the Light of Meaning Prismatic Jewel. These jewels can have several different modifiers, but some outcomes are substantially more valuable than others.

In the current league, Winter Orb has increased demand for Cold Damage-related jewels, while Energy Shield and other popular modifiers can also command significant prices. This gives players two approaches:

  • Sell Light of Meaning jewels unidentified for safer, predictable income.
  • Identify the jewels and gamble on hitting a highly valuable modifier.

The first option is much more consistent. The second can produce considerably higher profits but also introduces substantial variance.

For players building their initial PoE Currency bankroll, the unidentified strategy is generally the better choice.

What You Need to Start

The core item required for this farming method is an Audience with the King.

Each Audience with the King can be placed into the Crux of Nothingness on the Atlas, giving you an opportunity to fight the King in the Mists.

The test run described in the original experiment involved purchasing 57 boss invitations for approximately 5,500 Chaos Orbs, or roughly 97.86 Chaos per invitation. That represented an initial investment of approximately 28 Divine Orbs.

The character used for the experiment was an Animate Weapon of Ranged Arms Necromancer with a total investment of roughly 15–20 Divine Orbs. Importantly, this demonstrates that you do not need an extremely expensive character to farm the boss effectively.

The fight itself is relatively straightforward, so the main requirements are enough damage and survivability to clear the encounter quickly.

The Maze Skip Makes the Farm Faster

One of the most useful quality-of-life tricks for this farming method involves skipping the maze section of the King in the Mists encounter.

When the boss reaches the required health threshold, the encounter normally sends you into the maze. Instead of completing it, you can log out and return to town.

Previously, you had to manually walk back to the waypoint and travel to your hideout. However, the game now provides a Travel to Hideout keybind under the Options and Input settings.

Assigning this function to a convenient key can significantly reduce downtime.

For example, after logging out, you can press the assigned key to immediately return to your hideout. When you re-enter the boss instance, the maze section is skipped and the encounter proceeds directly toward the final phase.

When farming dozens of invitations, eliminating this unnecessary movement can make a noticeable difference to your hourly efficiency.

One-Hour Farming Results

During the one-hour experiment, 57 King in the Mists invitations were used.

The run produced:

  • 9 Light of Meaning Prismatic Jewels
  • Several additional miscellaneous drops
  • Multiple valuable identified jewel modifiers

At the time of the test, an unidentified Light of Meaning was worth approximately 4 Divine Orbs.

Selling all nine jewels unidentified would therefore have generated approximately:

9 × 4 Divine Orbs = 36 Divine Orbs

Compared with the roughly 28 Divine Orb cost of the boss invitations, this already provides a respectable return.

There is also an important statistical consideration. Light of Meaning jewels have approximately a 20% drop chance from these invitations. With 57 boss attempts, the expected number of jewels is around 11.4.

That means nine jewels in one hour was slightly below the expected result, rather than an unusually high drop rate.

Using approximately 11 jewels as a more representative result gives an estimated gross revenue of around 44 Divine Orbs per hour before accounting for invitation costs.

After expenses, the consistent profit is roughly 17 Divine Orbs per hour under the market conditions described in the experiment.

The Riskier Strategy: Identify the Jewels

The real profit potential comes from identifying Light of Meaning jewels.

Although unidentified jewels provide predictable income, certain modifiers can be worth dramatically more.

During the experiment, the player identified several jewels and hit:

  • Energy Shield: approximately 32 Divine Orbs
  • Energy Shield: approximately 32 Divine Orbs
  • Fire Damage: approximately 3 Divine Orbs
  • Another Fire Damage: approximately 3 Divine Orbs
  • Chaos Resistance: approximately 100 Chaos
  • Mana: low value
  • Global Critical Strike: low value
  • Lightning Damage: low value
  • Evasion: low value

The two Energy Shield hits alone generated approximately 62 Divine Orbs after selling them slightly below market value.

This illustrates the enormous difference between consistent farming and high-variance gambling.

The player ultimately generated approximately 67 Divine Orbs in total hourly revenue from the experiment. After subtracting the cost of the invitations, the reported profit reached roughly 39 Divine Orbs for one hour.

However, this should not be interpreted as the normal expected return. The result benefited heavily from hitting two high-value Energy Shield modifiers.

Sell Unidentified or Identify Everything?

For most players, selling the jewels unidentified is the safer approach.

The unidentified method offers several advantages:

  • Predictable revenue – You know the approximate value before selling.
  • Lower variance – You are not dependent on hitting a rare modifier.
  • Lower starting capital requirement – You can sell drops as you farm.
  • Faster bankroll growth – Consistent profits make it easier to reinvest.

Identifying jewels is better suited to players who already have enough capital to absorb bad results.

A single excellent roll can potentially pay for an entire farming session, but several consecutive poor rolls can destroy the expected profit of the strategy.

Players looking to expand their inventory of PoE Items for sale should also consider whether the additional risk fits their overall farming strategy and available capital.

How Much Can You Really Make?

The experiment provides two useful benchmarks.

Conservative Strategy

If Light of Meaning jewels are sold unidentified and the expected drop rate is maintained, the estimated profit is around:

17 Divine Orbs per hour

This figure is much more useful for planning because it does not depend on hitting extremely valuable modifiers.

High-Roll Strategy

If you identify the jewels and hit valuable modifiers, the profit can become substantially higher.

The test run generated approximately:

67 Divine Orbs in revenue

After approximately 28 Divine Orbs in invitation costs, that resulted in:

39 Divine Orbs profit

But this was a particularly fortunate run. It should not be treated as the baseline.

Market prices also change rapidly. If Light of Meaning prices fall, invitation prices increase, or demand for particular modifiers declines, the profitability of the strategy will change accordingly.

Who Should Use This Farming Method?

King in the Mists is particularly attractive for players who have recently reached high-tier maps but are not yet ready for expensive endgame farming strategies.

A typical progression could look like this:

T15/T16 Maps → King in the Mists Farming → Build Investment → More Advanced Bossing or Juiced Mapping

The strategy works well as a transitional money-making method because the entry requirements are relatively low.

You do not need an expensive Atlas setup, specialized Scarabs, or an extremely optimized character. The most important factors are boss kill speed, access to invitations, and the ability to manage your investment efficiently.

For players who prefer to buy PoE Currency rather than spend hours building their initial bankroll, external purchasing can also provide a faster way to fund a character. However, players should always consider platform rules and transaction risks before using third-party services.

Why Winter Orb Matters

The recent popularity of Winter Orb is particularly important for this farming strategy.

As more players build around the skill, demand for relevant Light of Meaning modifiers can increase. This creates additional opportunities for players who are willing to identify their jewels instead of selling them immediately.

Cold Damage is especially interesting because it has become a more desirable outcome in the current market environment.

That said, market demand is constantly changing. A build nerf, balance adjustment, new meta build, or influx of supply can quickly change the value of individual jewel modifiers.

Therefore, always check current trade prices before deciding whether to identify your drops.

U4GM and Path of Exile Economy

For players researching ways to improve their progression and understand the broader Path of Exile economy, U4GM – A Leading Destination for Gaming Products is another resource worth considering.

Whether you are generating currency through boss farming, mapping, crafting, or trading, maintaining a clear understanding of your investment and return is essential.

The biggest mistake is focusing only on gross revenue. A strategy that produces 50 Divine Orbs in sales is not necessarily better than one producing 40 if its entry costs and downtime are significantly higher.

Is King in the Mists Still Worth Farming?

Based on the results of this experiment, King in the Mists remains a strong early-to-mid progression money maker in the 3.29 All Flame League.

Its biggest advantage is consistency.

The boss is relatively easy, the required investment is manageable, and Light of Meaning provides a valuable guaranteed marketable drop with an approximately 20% chance per invitation.

For a safer approach, sell the jewels unidentified and aim for the expected approximately 17 Divine Orbs per hour in profit under the stated market conditions.

For experienced players with sufficient capital, identifying the jewels creates much greater upside. However, the 39 Divine Orb profit achieved during the test was heavily influenced by lucky Energy Shield rolls and should not be considered a guaranteed hourly rate.

Ultimately, King in the Mists works particularly well as a stepping stone. Once you reach T15 or T16 maps, you can accumulate a few Divine Orbs, purchase invitations, farm the boss, sell the unidentified jewels, and gradually build enough capital to move into more advanced strategies such as juiced mapping, boss rushing, Nightmare Map farming, or Uber encounters.

The key is to treat the unidentified strategy as the reliable baseline and the identification strategy as a calculated gamble rather than guaranteed income.
